About the Artist
Shelley Hamilton is a singer, actor, writer, musician and producer whose powerful "nouveau soul" voice has captivated audiences worldwide. A direct descendant of the historic Africville community in Nova Scotia with Jamaican Maroon and Métis roots, her work is a profound exploration of her heritage — blending the raw emotion of Country and Blues with the sophisticated rhythms of Jazz. From the stages of Dubai, Japan, and Germany to appearances on CBC and CTV, Shelley is a two-time African Nova Scotian Music Association (ANSMA) Artist of the Year and a nominee for both the East Coast and Canadian Folk Music Awards. Her original song "Connected" was featured at the state funeral for Jack Layton and on the upcoming full length Telefilm Canada documentary Joan’s Kitchen Table.
